The Study page lays out Reading by Part. At the top is a count of the steps you have done out of all the steps, and each Part shows its own count.
A step counts as done when you have finished its lesson, or submitted its pretest, practice set or posttest at least once, whatever the score. The step suggested next has a Start or Continue button, so you never have to guess where to begin.
Four mastery levels
Every practice set has a mastery score from 0 to 100. The level and the score show on the practice set's card on the Study page.

How the mastery score is calculated
The score comes from all your attempts, with the most recent counting most. One attempt at 90 seconds per question or faster needs about 83% accuracy for Mastered.

The mastery score comes from all your attempts at a practice set, not just the last one, with the most recent counting most. In the app, the How Mastery Works dialog sums it up.
As a rough guide, if you have tried a set once and took no longer than 90 seconds per question, your score is about your accuracy plus 2. So around 83% accuracy on your first attempt is enough to reach Mastered straight away.
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Recent accuracy | Every attempt counts, but the newest counts most. The latest has a weight of 1, then 0.7, 0.49 and so on. |
| Consistency | Results that vary between attempts lower the score, by up to 20%. |
| Practice frequency | Each attempt adds 2 points, up to 10 points after five attempts. |
| Pace (latest attempt) | If your latest attempt took longer than 90 seconds per question, the score drops by up to 10%. |
| Time decay | The score you see slowly drops when you leave a practice set alone. The higher your score and the more often you have practiced, the slower it drops. |
When the posttest opens
The posttest opens once the Part's pretest is done and every practice set in the Part has reached Mastered. The server checks this rule, so it is the same on every device.
- Stays open if a score drops later
- Anything you have done can be retaken

The server checks this rule, so it is the same on every device. The posttest opens once two things are true: the Part's pretest is done, and every practice set in the Part has reached Mastered at some point. If a practice score later drops because you have not revisited it, an open posttest does not lock again, and anything you have done before can always be retaken.
| Step | Opens when |
|---|---|
| Pretest | Always open |
| Lesson | Always open |
| Practice set | The Part's pretest is done |
| Posttest | The pretest is done and every practice set in the Part has reached Mastered |

The Progress page shows these cards, from top to bottom. Until you have done a practice set or opened a lesson, it shows only the path card and a prompt to start from the Study page.
- Your path: a ring with the number of steps done, the number of practice sets at each mastery level, and a row of steps for each Part that shows its status when you hover or tap.
- Totals: Practices, Questions, Study time and Lessons finished.
- This week: how many days you studied this week, counted Sunday to Saturday.
- Accuracy: the accuracy of your latest practice set and the change since your first, shown once you have done at least two. Pretests and posttests are left out here.
- Question types: your accuracy by question type, weakest first. Types with fewer than five questions are flagged as not enough to judge yet.
- Activity: your latest eight activities, with View all linking to History.

Frequently asked questions
What is mastery in Xplodia?
In Xplodia, the Study page shows what to do next and the Progress page sums up how far you have come. Mastery connects the two: a score from 0 to 100 for each practice set, with four levels from Needs Work to Mastered (85 and above). A Part's posttest opens once its pretest is done and every practice set in the Part has reached Mastered.
Why does my mastery score drop on its own?
Because of time decay. The score you see slowly drops when you leave a practice set alone, so the level reflects what you can do now. A posttest that has opened stays open.
What accuracy do I need for Mastered?
You need a mastery score of 85 or more. On a first attempt where you take no longer than 90 seconds per question, about 83% accuracy is enough. After several attempts, the score combines all of them, with the most recent counting most.
Do I have to pass the posttest?
There is no pass mark on the posttest. It only has to be open, which happens once the pretest is done and every practice set in the Part has reached Mastered. Its result appears as a report like any other practice.
Do lessons count towards my progress?
A finished lesson counts as a finished step on the Study page and adds to Lessons finished, but it does not affect the mastery score.
