Dio works like a tutor sitting next to you, reading the same page. Select a sentence in the passage or a question and press Ask Dio. The sentence is sent with your question, so there is nothing to copy and no context to explain.
In practice and on the Review screen, type @ in the message box to point at the passage or a question number, up to five references per message. There are ready-made prompts too, such as "Give me a hint, not the answer". If your browser supports speech recognition, a microphone button lets you dictate your question in English.
Before Check, Dio gives hints
While you work, the server keeps the answer key and explanations away from Dio. Dio points you to the part of the passage worth rereading and asks one guiding question.
- The answer key stays on the server
- Dio is told not to give or confirm answers
- The answers you check stay your own

While you are still working on a package of questions, the server keeps the answer key and the explanations away from Dio. Dio is also told not to give, confirm or rule out an answer. Instead it points you to the part of the passage worth rereading, explains what the question type is asking, and asks one guiding question.
Dio can still read the passage, so this is an instruction, not an absolute guarantee. The point is that the answers you check stay your own.
After Check, Dio explains why
Once you press Check, the answer key appears and Dio can open the explanation. Ask why your answer was wrong and Dio walks you through it, pointing at the passage.
- Highlights the key sentence in the passage
- Shows its steps in the chat
- Keep asking until it makes sense

Once you press Check, the answer key appears under each question and Dio can open the explanation for it. Ask why your answer was wrong and Dio walks you through it, pointing back to the passage. If your browser supports it, Dio can highlight the key sentence in violet and scroll the passage to it.
The chat shows what Dio did along the way, such as "Looked up the official explanation" or "Pointed at the passage". From there you can keep asking follow-up questions until it makes sense. On a wide enough screen, the Dio panel opens by itself after Check.
Your conversations are saved
The conversation about a package is saved and comes back when you open it on the Review screen. Dio also gets your answers and study profile, so its explanations match your level.

The conversation about a package is saved and comes back when you open that package on the Review screen. Each lesson has its own conversation too. Reopening an old conversation does not use any of your weekly limit.
Dio also receives your answers and your study profile, such as your current score, target score and test plans, so its explanations can match your level.
Free, with a weekly limit
During launch, Dio is free for every student. The limit is weekly and based on how long your conversations are, not on the number of questions.

During launch, Dio is free for every student. Usage is limited per week, and the limit resets every Monday at 00:00 WIB (UTC+7).
The limit is based on how long your conversations are, not on the number of questions, so longer conversations use more of it. The Plan page in the app shows what percentage you have used this week. Once you reach 80%, the Dio panel shows a reminder. When the limit runs out, the message box locks until it resets.

- Dio is not available during pretests, posttests, or practice with instant feedback turned off (test mode, timed or not). Once you submit that session, you can talk it through with Dio on the Review screen.
- Dio replies in English, like the rest of the app.
- When the weekly limit runs out, you wait until Monday at 00:00 WIB to ask again.
- Dio's sentence highlights and voice dictation only appear in browsers that support them.
- Dio is an AI and can be wrong. If an explanation seems off, check it against the passage and the question's explanation.
Frequently asked questions
What is Dio?
Dio is the AI tutor in Xplodia for IELTS Reading. Dio sees the same passage and questions you have on screen, so you can mark the sentence that confuses you and ask about it. Before you check your answers, Dio gives hints, not answers. After you check, it explains why and can highlight the key sentence in the passage. Dio is free during launch, with a weekly usage limit.
Does Dio tell me the right answer?
Not before you press Check. While you are still answering, the server keeps the answer key away from Dio, and Dio is told not to give or confirm an answer. After Check, the key is already on your screen and Dio explains why that answer is right.
Can I use Dio during a pretest or posttest?
No. Pretests and posttests are timed and give no feedback, like the real test. You can go through them with Dio after you submit, on the Review screen.
How many questions can I ask Dio?
There is no fixed number per question or per day. The limit is weekly and based on how long your conversations are, so longer ones use more of it. The Plan page shows the percentage you have used, and the limit resets every Monday at 00:00 WIB.
Can Dio help with Writing or Speaking?
Not yet. Xplodia covers IELTS Academic Reading only for now, so Dio works with the Reading passage and questions you are on.
